Designing an interior around an art collection - a life-time passion - was an unique experience for our firm. The challenges of showing off the art without distracting from its beauty spurred new approaches to color, texture, and arrangement - the results were so satisfying!

The mantle is a prime example of our necessarily unique approach. This painting, the star of the family’s collection, was destined for the mantle but for its dimensions. Eventually, our solution of adding a mirror arrived - much to the joy of the family. The painting now wrests the attention it deserves as soon as you walk through the door.

The living room wanted reconfiguration for enjoying art and each other. Our clients wanted to live among their art and allow it to dictate much of the rooms’ flow. With so many focal points, turning the social focus inward allowed for an integrated space broken only by the chaise - a transition piece.

Choosing white as the collection’s backdrop was far from a default decision. Considering the scale of the house and the color schemes within the art, we knew that the perfect shade of white was necessary to set off their intentionally curated arrangements. Our clients were a bit scarred by their previously yellow walls that overpowered every detail. A soothing white allowed fittings and fixtures to breath - especially the gorgeous drapes and this rocking chair, a treasured heirloom from a great-grandmother.

Restoration Hardware furnished new fixtures and the dining room set. New window treatments were in order as well! Their consistency with style served a strong but supportive role to the inherent beauty of the home and its collection.

Powder bath updates included this mirror and the vanity - also Restoration Hardware - though the wallpaper is original. It provides a warm contrast to the brightness of its surroundings.
